TOPIC: The Health, Wealth, and Prosperity Non-Gospel
GUEST: Justin Peters, staff evangelist, First Baptist Church, MS
It says in the Bible that God wants you to be healthy, wealthy, and prosperous, right? If you’re sick, just pray and believe and He’ll make you well. If you’re poor, just pray and believe — and give to the church or ministry — and it will returned manifold to you. And if you’re stagnating in your career, just pray and believe and God will give you that promotion you’ve been waiting for.
You’ve seen them on T.V. — the “televangelists” performing “miraculous” healings, promising incredible returns on your “seed gift,” and generally telling you that success is in your future…just make sure you give to the ministry in the meantime.
What’s really miraculous is how many professing Christians actually believe, follow, and give to the health, wealth, and prosperity ministries, also known as the “Word of Faith” movement. What are its origins? Who are the purveyors of this non-gospel? Why is it so popular? What are the characteristics of its preachers and doctrines?
This weekend on The Christian Worldview, Justin Peters, a man who has had much experience with the H-W-P Non-Gospel through his mild case of cerebral palsy, will give us biblical insight into this seductive heresy. We’ll also take your phone calls.
