The old hymn goes, “Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! O what a foretaste of glory divine!” Unfortunately, though, many professing Christians struggle mightily with assurance that Jesus is theirs … that they are truly saved.
Perhaps just as fear-inducing, some Christians think they can lose their salvation. And this isn’t just a problem for new Christians — some who have faithfully served in their churches for years, who know the Bible inside and out, and even share the gospel, are still unsure whether their eternity is guaranteed with God in heaven.
1 John 5:13 says, “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life” [emphasis mine].
Can one truly know that he/she is saved, and if so, how? What leads to a lack of assurance of salvation? Is the saying really true, “Once saved, always saved?”
We’ll answers these questions and take your phone calls in Hour 1 of The Christian Worldview this Saturday.
