No doubt you’ve heard about – or even read – the runaway bestselling book, The Shack. The Christian community – and even the secular community – have been raving about it for months, comparing it to John Bunyan’s classic allegory, The Pilgrim’s Progress.
I have not read The Shack nor do I intend to – I reflexively stay away from “Christian” books that offer a metaphorical, new-and-improved understanding of Scriptural concepts. I only have so much time and don’t like to use it wading through re-imagined perspectives on God, the Trinity, salvation, Christ, etc.
But the fact is, The Shack is hugely popular and has impacted many Christians so I do think it’s important to get “the Christian worldview” on this book. Fortunately, a man I’ve met and respect has done just that. Dr. Norman Geisler has co-written a full-length review of The Shack (with Bill Roach) which I have included below. Dr. Geisler is an author of 70 books and has taught philosophy and ethics at the college and graduate level for fifty years. He was formerly the president of Southern Evangelical Seminary.
So for The Shack lovers, haters, curious, and everyone in between, here is a biblically-based review: Read more
