God Must Go…And Take Truth With Him

The below column from the American Thinker entitled “Orwell’s Children” by Bruce Walker precisely describes the process by which a free nation like the United States transitions into a slave-state of socialism or outright communism. Don’t think it’s happening in the good ol’ U-S of A? When you read Walker’s list of telltale signs – based on George Orwell’s famous book, 1984 – I think you’ll begin to understand that a brave new America awaits us on January 21, 2009 when the Obama administration takes control.

It’s interesting what must go first: God. And then second: truth. With God and truth (i.e. the Bible) out of the picture – and a populous devoid of their knowledge – then man and government can make up the rules. Third, language is then manipulated to make evil sound good and good evil (isn’t that a Bible verse? Isaiah 5:20). “The Freedom of Choice Act.” Who could be against freedom or choice? Oh, it’s a radical piece of abortion legislation that Obama has promised to sign first-thing in office? Who would’ve thunk it by such a sweet-sounding title?

It certainly doesn’t take much imagination to see what has been taking place in America and where it’s all going. I would rather doubt these humanistic leaders and their willing masses even realize where Read more

Obama a Socialist…or “Interventionist”?

I recently came across an extended interview with Barack Obama by David Leonhardt (Obamanomics, The New York Times, August 24, 2008) reporting in more detail than I’ve seen anywhere else about Obama’s mindset regarding economics. According to this article, Obama believes in the free market, hence he is not technically a socialist, which is defined as the government ownership of the means of production. On the other hand, he said in the interview he’ll just tax the productive workers in order to redistribute it!

Here are Obama’s actual words: “If you talk to Warren [Buffett], he’ll tell you his preference is not to meddle in the economy at all — let the market work, however way it’s going to work, and then just tax the heck out of people at the end and just redistribute it,” Obama said. “That way you’re not impeding efficiency, and you’re achieving equity on the back end.”

That’s called interventionism, or, as the late postmodern professor of literature at Stanford, Richard Rorty, put it, “welfare-state capitalism.” This is where the government uses regulatory policies and the tax codes to control economic outcomes (without taking ownership of the private sector) and redistribute wealth according to their purposes, or, as Obama told Joe the plumber, “spread the wealth around.” Read more

Christian Economics v. Obamanomics (video)

There is no issue Christians have a greater misunderstanding about – or lack of interest in – than economics. I know because I used to be one of them until I came to realize just how important economics is to almost every aspect of life.

You’ve heard the Christian refrain: “The Bible doesn’t prefer one economic system above another.” “Jesus said, ‘Render to Caesar’ so just pay your taxes.” “Money is the root of all evil.” “The early apostles had all things in common.” “The rich can afford to pay more taxes.” “The disadvantaged should be helped by government.” “Capitalism is based on greed.”

And on and on it goes with a mindless “don’t make me think too deeply about it” mentality or downright misinterpretation of Scripture. But the fact is the Bible is very clear about economic principles. Early in the book of Genesis, God instructed Adam on one foundational economic principle: Read more

In recent weeks it has become more obvious that America is on the yellow-brick road to Socialism.

In 1962 Russian Premier Krushchev said, “We can’t expect the American people to jump from capitalism to Communism but we can assist their leaders by giving them small amounts of Socialism until they awaken one day to find out they have Communism.”  He also said that Communism would take over America “without firing a shot.” Read more

The U.S. Senate voted this week on a $700 billion government bailout of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the guarantors of about half of mortgages in this country. In September, the government bailed out AIG, the 18th largest company in the world, at a cost of $85 billion.

The dictionary definition of socialism is “A social system in which the means of producing and distributing goods are owned collectively and political power is exercised by the whole community.” Read more
